p6282
Ibe Shuten
This is an Ibe sake cup (guinomi) by Kosuke Yashiro, who spent his years of apprenticeship dreaming of working with Bizen ware in the town of Ibe, and has finally made his debut after realizing his long-held dream of building his own kiln there.
This piece is a straightforward, quintessential Bizen ware that reflects Yashiro's devotion to the craft—a calling he committed to for life after falling in love with the works of the many potters who were born and died in Ibe.

The moss-green *kase-goma* (dull ash glaze) created by firing slowly and carefully in an ascending kiln possesses a fineness and beautiful coloration that echoes the tradition of the Kaneshige school.

Furthermore, the piece features magnificent *hi-iro* (scarlet flame markings) on the front and inside, which are highly desirable in a sake vessel, creating a *keshiki* (landscape) characteristic of Bizen ware that truly reveals its worth the more it is used.

It is a piece that is as enjoyable to look at as it is to use, with a landscape that promises to grow more beautiful with time, demonstrating the mastery of kiln firing that Yashiro attained through over 15 years of apprenticeship.

Please note that because the clay body is slightly porous, liquid may seep through if left inside for an extended period.

No box included (*a paulownia wood box can be made upon request).
Diameter 8.2cm x 8.1cm x Height 4.8cm

Kosuke Yashiro was born in Sapporo, Hokkaido, in 1979.

Around 2000, he began his apprenticeship under various kiln masters and artists in Ibe, Bizen City.

He built his own kiln in Ibe and became an independent artist in September 2016.
