p6284
Ibe Tokkuri
This is an Ibe sake bottle by Kosuke Yashiro, who spent his years as an apprentice dreaming of working with Bizen ware in Ibe, and finally realized his long-held wish of building his own kiln there to make his debut.
It is a straightforward piece of Bizen ware that reflects Yashiro’s deep commitment to his life's work, inspired by the masterpieces of the many potters who were born in and dedicated their lives to Ibe.

The piece features a dynamic aesthetic achieved by firing mountain clay three times, with well-melted ash glaze forming kiln transformations that resemble a rocky reef.

The firing is so thorough that almost the entire body is covered in ash, leaving only the front exposed with the natural texture of the clay.

This exposed section highlights the coarse, earthy quality of the mountain clay, combined with ink-like shading that gives it the refined, alluring character of a climbing kiln.

The form is a textbook example of a Bizen katatsuki (shoulder-shouldered) sake bottle, offering a simple and tranquil contrast to the intense kiln transformations.

Please note that because mountain clay is used, liquid may seep through if left inside for an extended period.

No box included (*a custom paulownia wood box can be produced separately).
Rim diameter 3.6cm x Body diameter 9.0cm x Body diameter 8.7cm x Height 14.8cm; Capacity 440cc

Kosuke Yashiro was born in Sapporo, Hokkaido in 1979.

Around 2000, he began his apprenticeship under various kiln masters and artists in Ibe, Bizen City.

In September 2016, he built his own kiln in Ibe and became an independent artist.
