p6313
Ibe Shuten
This is an Ibe sake cup (guinomi) by Kosuke Yashiro, an artist who spent his apprenticeship dreaming of working with Bizen ware in the land of Ibe, and who has finally realized his long-held ambition by building his own kiln and debuting there.
It is a straightforward piece of Bizen ware, true to Yashiro’s character, who fell in love with the works of the many potters who were born and passed away in Ibe and dedicated his life to Bizen pottery.

While the overall color is quite understated and rustic, it possesses the distinct, atmospheric charm that defines true Bizen ware.

The faint grey "kase-goma" (dry ash glaze) on the rim and interior complements the rich, brownish clay texture perfectly, effectively bringing out the qualities of Bizen ware made from local rice-paddy clay.

The piece clearly reflects Yashiro’s characteristic meticulousness, offering both the ease of use that comes with thin-walled construction and a visually impressive form.

Please note that because the clay is relatively porous, liquid may seep through if left inside for extended periods.
No box included (*A paulownia wood box can be made separately for an additional 1,500 yen).
Diameter 7.5cm × 7.4cm × Height 5.7cm

*Please note that a shipping fee of 800 yen will be automatically added at checkout.
Kosuke Yashiro was born in Sapporo, Hokkaido in 1979.

Around the year 2000, he began training under various kiln masters and artists in Ibe, Bizen City.

In September 2016, he built his own kiln in Ibe and became an independent artist.
