p6328
Ibe tea bowl
This Ibe tea bowl was created by Kosuke Yashiro, who spent his formative years dreaming of working with Bizen ware in the town of Ibe, and who has finally debuted after fulfilling his long-held ambition of building his own kiln there.
It is a straightforward, authentic piece of Bizen ware, true to the style of Yashiro, who fell in love with the works of the many potters born and buried in Ibe and dedicated his life to the craft.

The piece was fired in a way that shielded it from direct flames, essentially steaming it in the kiln, resulting in a matte, ochre-colored surface reminiscent of Nanban-yakishime ware.

The inclusion of small stones further enhances the atmospheric, Nanban-style texture; they shift with the flow of the clay or peek through the surface, showcasing excellent craftsmanship.

The soft, moist texture, reminiscent of unglazed pottery, is exceptionally pleasant to the touch, and it is exciting to imagine how it will develop with continued use.

Despite its simple appearance, the meticulous finish clearly reflects the great deal of time invested in its creation, and combined with its soft texture, this is a magnificent tea bowl that truly shines when held in the palm of one's hand.

Due to the slightly porous nature of the clay, liquid may seep through if left inside for an extended period.

Signed wooden box (shiho-san)
Diameter 12.1cm x 12.0cm x Height 9.6cm

Kosuke Yashiro was born in Sapporo, Hokkaido in 1979.

Around 2000, he began his apprenticeship under various kilns and artists in Ibe, Bizen City.

He built his own kiln in Ibe and became an independent artist in September 2016.
