p6341
Bizen Sake Cup
This is a new Bizen sake cup (guinomi) by Kazuki Nakamura, an artist who continues the legacy of masters Rokuro Nakamura and Shin Nakamura to create deeply expressive works.
While inheriting the lineage of these masters of sake-ware, Kazuki brings his own unique color to his work, distinguishing it from that of his father and grandfather.
Fresh from the kiln in June 2021, this latest piece features a relaxed, rhythmic rise formed by the potter's wheel—a technique inherited from his grandfather—that radiates an exquisite charm.
Though similar in shape to a "badarai" (horse basin) style, the body is slightly deeper; the gently tapered sides fit perfectly between the thumb and forefinger, while the foot provides a secure grip for the middle finger, making it easier to hold than its appearance suggests.
This piece offers a richer, more deeply fired scarlet than the vibrant "hiiro" (scarlet) that is the signature of the Nakamura family, creating a magnificent contrast with the well-melted sesame glaze inside the cup.
Combining a profound form with vivid scarlet tones, this piece will only grow in character as it is polished by the sake poured into it over time.

Signed wooden box (double-slat lid) included
Diameter 8.8cm x 8.5cm x Height 3.0cm

Kazuki Nakamura was born in Bizen City, Okayama Prefecture, in 1980 as the eldest son of Shin Nakamura.
After graduating from the Faculty of Letters at Okayama University in 2003, he studied under his grandfather, Rokuro Nakamura, and his father, Shin Nakamura, to refine his ceramic techniques.
He fired his first kiln and became an independent artist in 2006.
