p6373
Bizen Sake Cup
This is a brand new Bizen ware sake cup (guinomi) fresh from the kiln by Koichiro Isezaki, who was born as the eldest son of Living National Treasure Jun Isezaki and is breathing new life into the world of Bizen ware with his exceptional sense and masterful modeling skills.
This is his latest work, just removed from the kiln in September 2021.

While making the most of the characteristics of Bizen ware as an earthen material, he successfully incorporates the essence of wood carving—one of his own roots—to create a unique work that is instantly recognizable as Koichiro's.

This piece is what is known as "so-hidasuki" (full scarlet cord-markings). By wrapping the entire piece in straw, the hidasuki, which usually appear as thin lines, cover the entire surface, creating a unique atmosphere reminiscent of a ripe peach.

Furthermore, for this work, white clay was used as the base, which gives the hidasuki itself a softer, milky hue.

The piece was formed by tearing a large ball of clay in two, joining them, and shaping them into a sphere. This process creates swells and fine wrinkles on the surface of the vessel, allowing one to enjoy the texture and feel of the clay itself.

Signed wooden box to follow at a later date (We appreciate your patience as it will take some time before shipping).
Diameter 8.3cm × Diameter 8.4cm × Height 5.8cm

Koichiro Isezaki was born in Bizen City, Okayama Prefecture, in 1974, as the eldest son of Jun Isezaki.

After graduating from the Sculpture Department of Tokyo Zokei University in 1994, he studied abroad in the United States.

Subsequently, in 1998, he apprenticed under Jeff Shapiro, a potter living in New York City and a disciple of his father.

After studying pottery for about two years, he returned to Japan, and from 2000, he became an independent potter under the guidance of his father, Jun Isezaki.
