p6379
Kuro-Shuten
This is a newly fired black sake cup by Tomoyuki Oiwa, who studied ceramics under Ryuichi Kakurezaki and is currently pursuing his craft in Kamigori, Hyogo Prefecture.

This is a latest work, fired in September 2021.

Mr. Oiwa aims for intense firing in his work, and the high heat transforms the black slip into a magnificent hue, achieving a clear, glossy black finish similar to that of his mentor, Mr. Kakurezaki.

Furthermore, this piece goes beyond that, featuring a vivid, eye-catching light blue kiln transformation; the remarkably clear, scenic coloration is reminiscent of *hikidashi-guro* (pulled black ware), creating a truly mysterious effect.

The bold form, which makes heavy use of *shinogi* (fluting), creates fine ridges and grooves in the clay surface, and the translucent light blue kiln transformation gains delicate shading from these textures.

The design, which incorporates and reinterprets his mentor's signature tripod style, is also intriguing, with Mr. Oiwa's meticulous attention to detail evident from the foot to the rim.

Signed wooden box to be provided at a later date (please note that it will take some time before the item can be shipped).
Diameter 7.5cm x 6.7cm x Height 6.2cm

Tomoyuki Oiwa was born in Kobe, Hyogo Prefecture, in 1977.

He completed the Bizen Ceramic Center program in 2004 and began studying under Ryuichi Kakurezaki in 2005.

He established his own studio in Hyogo Prefecture in 2014.
