p6382
Hikidashi-guro sake cup
This is a newly fired *Hikidashi-guro* (pulled-black) sake cup by Tomoyuki Oiwa, who studied ceramic techniques under Ryuichi Kakurezaki and is currently pursuing his research in Kamigori, Hyogo Prefecture.
This is his latest work, fired in September 2021.

Mr. Oiwa aims for intense firing in his process, and the high thermal energy transforms the applied clay slip into a brilliant black color, resulting in a clear, lustrous black finish identical to that of his mentor, Mr. Kakurezaki.

Furthermore, this piece is one of only a few rare experimental works produced using the *hikidashi* technique, in which the *goma* (ash glaze) on the outer perimeter has become translucent, shifting into an amber-like hue.
The oval form, reminiscent of Mr. Kakurezaki's early *hirahai* (shallow cups) and *takatsuki* (pedestal cups), is magnificent, and the craftsmanship of the base, appearing as though it were scooped out with a spatula, is truly impressive.

Another effect of this shape is that, due to the cup being placed face-down, the natural ash glaze only adhered to the outer perimeter. As a result, the exterior features a complete amber landscape created by the *hikidashi* process, while the interior displays a clear black, creating a perfect two-tone aesthetic.

Original signed wooden box to follow (please note that it will take some time before the item can be shipped).
Diameter 9.4cm x 8.3cm x Height 4.9cm

Tomoyuki Oiwa was born in Kobe, Hyogo Prefecture, in 1977.

He completed his studies at the Bizen Pottery Center in 2004 and became an apprentice to Ryuichi Kakurezaki in 2005.

He established his own studio in Hyogo Prefecture in 2014.
