p6387
Hidasuki sake cup
This is a new Bizen hidasuki sake cup, just taken out of the kiln by Yoshiteru Koriki, who pursues his own creative path without pretense while having studied under Sozan Kaneshige and Yuho Kaneshige.
This is his latest work, just removed from the kiln in September 2021.

It was fired in a custom electric kiln capable of being used in conjunction with wood firing, requiring as much, if not more, time and effort as a climbing kiln.

The moist, soft texture of the mugwort-colored clay, combined with the rich, deep crimson of the hidasuki pattern that seems to permeate to the core of the clay, reflects the solid inheritance of his masters' techniques.

Koriki-sensei has shifted toward a slightly thinner construction compared to his previous works, and combined with a form reminiscent of a waist-tightened tea bowl, his style has become even more delicate.

The clay surface is covered with a multitude of black particles inherent to the soil; they are so abundant that they catch the light when held in the hand, adding a profound presence similar to Japanese washi paper.

Signed wooden box to be provided later (we apologize, but it will take some time before it can be shipped.)
Diameter 6.7cm x 6.6cm x Height 5.2cm

Yoshiteru Koriki was born in Ako City, Hyogo Prefecture, in 1970.

After graduating from high school, he studied ceramics for seven years starting in 1989 under Sozan Kaneshige and Yuho Kaneshige.

In 1996, he built his own climbing kiln in Shizutani, Bizen City, and fired his first kiln the following year.

He held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2000 and has held solo exhibitions every year since.

In 2002, he was selected for the Chanoyu Zokei Exhibition for the first time.
