p6404
Bizen Yohen Sake Cup
This is a brand new Bizen yohen sake cup, fresh from the kiln, by Yoshiteru Koriki, an artist who pursues his own creative vision without pretense, despite having studied under Sozan Kaneshige and Yuho Kaneshige.
This is a latest work, having been fired in September 2021.

One side features a landscape where natural glaze has accumulated as if scorched charcoal were applied directly to it, with thick, concentrated layers of ash that have hardened while still bubbling, transforming into a magma-like yohen (kiln transmutation).

Areas outside the yohen have a slightly lower-temperature, "ama-yaki" (soft-fired) appearance, allowing one to enjoy soft, bark-like kase-goma ash glaze and a vivid scarlet hue reminiscent of ripe fruit.

While this sake cup is characterized by its intense firing, centered on gray yohen, the base clay is a remarkably vivid orange, creating a wealth of variation in the scenery and making it fascinating to see how the atmosphere changes entirely depending on which side you view.

The interior features a small, circular patch of scarlet, a sophisticated touch typical of Koriki-sensei.

The form, featuring a fresh Ido tea bowl-inspired design never seen before from him, is striking. The foot was fired using a "kabuse-yaki" (covered) technique, which has brought out a vivid scarlet hue, allowing you to enjoy a foot stained in scarlet rather than the usual "kairagi" (plum blossom crackle).

Signed wooden box (shohozan)
Diameter 8.7cm x 8.6cm x Height 5.0cm

Yoshiteru Koriki was born in Ako City, Hyogo Prefecture, in 1970.

After graduating from high school, he studied ceramics for seven years starting in 1989 under Sozan Kaneshige and Yuho Kaneshige.

In 1996, he built his own climbing kiln in Shizutani, Bizen City, and fired his first kiln the following year.

He held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2000 and has held solo exhibitions annually ever since.

In 2002, he was selected for the Tea Ceremony Molding Exhibition for the first time.
