p6424
Kohiki sake cup
This is a new Kohiki sake cup, fresh from the kiln, by Yoshiteru Koriki, an artist who pursues his own creative vision without pretense, despite having studied under Sozan Kaneshige and Yuho Kaneshige.
This is his latest work, just removed from the kiln in September 2021.

Following the tradition of Sozan Kaneshige—who excelled not only in Bizen ware but also in glazed ceramics such as Shino and Karatsu—these works use local Bizen clay while being finished as authentic Kohiki pieces.

Small stones embedded in the clay peek out from beneath the glaze, giving the pure white glaze a beautifully rugged, natural quality.

Five iron-painted dots are marked on the interior, resembling kiln supports, which, combined with the shifting shading of the glaze that ripples like a water surface, create a truly captivating landscape.

Signed wooden box (shiho-san)
Diameter 8.4cm x 8.1cm x Height 4.2cm

Yoshiteru Koriki was born in Ako City, Hyogo Prefecture, in 1970.

After graduating from high school, he studied ceramics for seven years under Sozan Kaneshige and Yuho Kaneshige starting in 1989.

In 1996, he built his own climbing kiln in Shizutani, Bizen City, and fired his first kiln the following year.

He held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2000 and has continued to hold annual solo exhibitions since then.

In 2002, his work was selected for the Tea Ceremony Molding Exhibition for the first time.
