p6434
Bizen ware kiln-mutation blue sake bottle
Born in Inbe and a lover of Bizen ware since childhood,
this is a brand new Bizen kiln-changed "Ao" (blue) sake flask, fresh from the kiln by Takashi Baba, an artist who finds his life's joy in creating works and firing kilns.

This is the latest work, just removed from the kiln in November 2021.

It is a sake cup from the "Kiln-Changed Ao" series, an evolution of the black Bizen style using painted clay that Baba specializes in, where a portion of the black surface has transformed into a vivid cobalt blue.

The most striking feature is the intense cobalt blue coloring named "Kiln-Changed Ao," but even in the black areas, the intense firing has produced a unique, gunmetal-like black finish.

A large amount of "goma" (ash glaze) flowed from the back to the front, gathering at the bottom of the front side to form bead-like drips.

Due to the influence of the black painted clay, the goma on the back has a strong bluish tint, which shifts toward a yellowish hue as it moves toward the front.

Although it is a simple "katatsuki" (shoulder-shouldered) style flask, it features a slender body with a large neck, creating the sharp aesthetic characteristic of Takashi Baba.

Original signed box to follow (please note that it will take some time to ship.)
Rim 4.5cm x Body diameter 8.2cm x Body diameter 8.0cm x Height 14.3cm Capacity approx. 320cc

Takashi Baba was born in 1983 as the eldest son of Bizen ware artist Shosuke Baba.

From an early age, he envisioned himself becoming a ceramic artist, and chose to study sculpture in university to broaden the scope of his pottery.

He graduated from the Sculpture Department of Tokyo University of the Arts in 2006 and honed his skills at the Kyoto Municipal Institute of Industrial Technology and Culture.

He became independent in 2007 and held his first solo exhibition.

Currently, he is active primarily through solo exhibitions at department stores.
