p6460
Blue-glazed black sake bottle
This is a "Sohen-kuro" (Blue-change black) sake flask by Yuji Goseki, who opened his kiln in Ibaraki Prefecture after training under Living National Treasure Jun Isezaki.

The piece uses a black clay application that identifies it immediately as work from the Isezaki school, and it is titled "Sohen-kuro" because the areas where natural glaze accumulates turn cobalt blue.

Beneath the golden-hued sesame glaze created by pine firewood, the cobalt blue of the "Sohen" effect appears as if shining through, resulting in an exotic coloring reminiscent of a blue-ringed octopus.

The blue-change effect is particularly prominent from the rim to the neck, and it displays a beautiful indigo color when it absorbs droplets of sake spilled while pouring.

While the flask is appealing for its large, powerful, and voluminous body, it has been carefully refined down to the finest details, making it lightweight and easy to use.

As the sesame glaze drips to the very bottom and affects its stability, please use it with a thick coaster or similar mat.
Signed wooden box to follow at a later date (please note that it will take some time until shipping).
Rim 4.3cm × Body diameter 9.0cm × Body diameter 8.9cm × Height 14.8cm; Capacity 440cc
Yuji Goseki was born in Chiba Prefecture in 1988.

After graduating from Tohoku University of Art and Design in 2013, he studied under Jun Isezaki, a Living National Treasure in Bizen ware.

He became independent in 2017 and built his own kiln in Hiyama, Hitachiomiya City, Ibaraki Prefecture, in 2019.
