p6639
Sake drinker on the drawer
This is a brand-new *hikidashi* (pulled-out) sake cup, fresh from the kiln, created by Yoshiteru Koriki, who pursues his own artistic vision without pretense, even while having studied under Sozan Kaneshige and Yuho Kaneshige.
This latest work was just removed from the kiln in May 2022.

While Koriki has created *hikidashi* black ware before, this piece utilizes cobalt in pursuit of further evolution as a black ceramic work.

Using a slip infused with cobalt and pulled from the kiln during firing, a deep ultramarine kiln-transmutation has emerged on the front of the piece, as if bleeding from the clay itself.

Other areas also exhibit the characteristic scenery of a *hikidashi* black piece, with a striking, highly lustrous dark gray and black that carries a metallic feel.

At one moment it shines almost like metal, and the next, all light seems to be swallowed by a profound blackness; looking into the interior of the cup is truly like peering into the deep reaches of space.

The hues vary subtly, with a more pronounced metallic quality around the foot, making this a sake cup that reminds us once again of the mystery of *hikidashi* black and the wonder of light.

Signed wooden box to follow (we kindly ask for your patience as it will take some time to ship).
Diameter 6.5cm x 6.3cm x Height 6.1cm

Yoshiteru Koriki was born in Ako City, Hyogo Prefecture, in 1970.

After graduating from high school, he studied ceramics for seven years starting in 1989 under Sozan Kaneshige and Yuho Kaneshige.

In 1996, he built an *anagama* climbing kiln in Shizutani, Bizen City, to establish his independence, and fired his first kiln the following year.

He held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2000 and has held annual solo exhibitions ever since.

In 2002, his work was selected for the Tea Ceremony Molding Exhibition for the first time.
