p6640
Bizen Sake Cup
This is a brand new Bizen sake cup, fresh from the kiln, by Yoshiteru Koriki, who pursues his own creative vision without pretense while having studied under Sozan Kaneshige and Yuho Kaneshige.
This is a latest work, having just been removed from the kiln in May 2022.

True to Koriki-sensei’s style of bringing out the character of the clay through bold firing techniques that fear no risk, this is a simple sake cup that leans heavily toward the "clay" aspect rather than the "firing."

It is a very simple piece with minimal sesame glaze, and while it is Bizen ware that invites one to enjoy the scenery of natural glaze, it looks as though the clay is being desperately protected from the flames.

Overall, it has the moist, soft appearance characteristic of earthenware, and the interior is particularly lovely, with each tiny grain of stone faintly tinted in a scarlet hue.

Additionally, the waist of the cup is carved with a decorative pattern resembling a cypress fence (higaki-mon), and the intense shaving—which almost feels off-balance within the quiet aesthetic of the piece—exudes an overwhelming sense of presence.

Signed wooden box to follow (please note that it will take some time to ship).
Diameter 6.2cm x 6.2cm x Height 5.2cm

Yoshiteru Koriki was born in Ako City, Hyogo Prefecture, in 1970.

After graduating from high school, he studied ceramics for seven years starting in 1989 under Sozan Kaneshige and Yuho Kaneshige.

In 1996, he built his own climbing kiln in Shizutani, Bizen City, to become an independent artist, and held his first firing the following year.

He held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2000 and has held solo exhibitions every year since.

In 2002, he was selected for the Tea Ceremony Molding Exhibition for the first time.
