p6650
Drawer drunkard
This is a newly fired *hikidashi* (pulled-from-the-kiln) sake cup by Yoshiteru Koriki, an artist who pursues his own creative vision without pretense while having studied under Sozan Kaneshige and Yuho Kaneshige.
This is his latest work, just removed from the kiln in May 2022.

While *hikidashi-guro* (pulled-black) pieces have not been a part of Koriki’s Bizen repertoire until now, this particular work utilizes cobalt in an effort to further evolve his black-toned pieces.

The piece was created using a clay slip infused with cobalt and pulled from the kiln during the firing process; on the front of the cup, a ultramarine kiln-transmutation (yohen) has emerged as if seeping out from within the clay.

Furthermore, other areas of the piece exhibit scenery characteristic of *hikidashi-guro* works, with a striking display of dark gray and black tones possessing a strong, metallic luster.

At a glance, it shines as if made of metal, yet at the next moment, the light seems to be entirely swallowed by a deep black, and gazing into the interior of the cup feels just like peering into the profound depths of the cosmos.

The nuances of color shift subtly, with a more pronounced metallic quality around the foot, making this a sake cup that reminds us once again of the wonder of the *hikidashi-guro* technique and the mystery of light.

Signed wooden box to follow (we kindly ask for your patience as it will take some time to ship).
Diameter 7.5cm x 7.2cm x Height 5.2cm

Yoshiteru Koriki was born in Ako City, Hyogo Prefecture, in 1970.

After graduating from high school, he spent seven years from 1989 studying ceramics under Sozan Kaneshige and Yuho Kaneshige.

In 1996, he built a climbing kiln in Shizutani, Bizen City, to go independent, and fired his first kiln the following year.

He held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2000, and has held solo exhibitions every year since.

In 2002, he was selected for the Tea Ceremony Molding Exhibition for the first time.
