p6654
Bizen Sake Cup
This is a new Bizen yohen sake cup, fresh from the kiln, by Yoshiteru Koriki, an artist who pursues his own creative vision without pretense, despite having studied under Sozan Kaneshige and Yuho Kaneshige.
This is his latest work, just removed from the kiln in May 2022.

True to Koriki-sensei's style of bringing out the character of the clay through daring kiln firing that fears no risk, the outer surface features a deep, charcoal-like black ash-covered yohen, with some areas faintly shimmering with a silvery ash-covered yohen.

While the scarlet (hiiro) of the Kaneshige school generally lightens toward white the more strongly it is fired, this piece succeeded in retaining a rich scarlet even while achieving a strong fire, thanks to certain limited areas being fired at the perfect moment.

The interior is also covered in a charcoal-like ash yohen, creating an impressive landscape where some parts shimmer faintly with silver.

Although Koriki-sensei has shifted slightly toward thinner forms compared to his previous work, he is beginning to imbue his pieces with a sense of dignity, seen in details like the flowing trimmed foot and the refined rim.
Signed wooden box (shiho-san)
Diameter 7.0cm x 6.6cm x Height 6.1cm
Yoshiteru Koriki was born in Ako City, Hyogo Prefecture, in 1970.

After graduating from high school, he studied ceramics under Sozan Kaneshige and Yuho Kaneshige for seven years starting in 1989.

He built his own climbing kiln in Shizutani, Bizen City, in 1996 and held his first firing the following year.

He held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2000 and has held solo exhibitions every year since.

In 2002, his work was selected for the Tea Ceremony Ceramics Exhibition for the first time.
