p6657
Bizen Beer Mug
This is a brand new Bizen beer mug, fresh from the kiln, by Yoshiteru Koriki, who pursues his own creative vision without pretense while having studied under the masters Sozan Kaneshige and Yuho Kaneshige.

This is his latest work, just removed from the kiln in May 2022.

The sophisticated quality of the clay, inherited from Sozan Kaneshige, may appear understated at first glance, but it is of an exceptionally high standard that clearly demonstrates what sets top-tier, superior clay apart from the rest.

The front of the piece features bright yellow sesame-seed ash glaze (hida-goma) from pine firewood, which not only serves as a visual highlight but also provides a coating effect on the rim.

The back of the piece shows *sangiri* (reduction-fired grey/blue) with faint hints of blue, providing an excellent accent against the warm-toned kiln transformation and the earthy quality of the clay.

Though no longer in production, the form echoes the beer mugs once crafted by Yuho Kaneshige, featuring a sharp, slightly tapered body and meticulous craftsmanship visible in the fine shaving around the base.

No box
Diameter 8.5cm × 8.4cm × Height 12.3cm

*Please note that a shipping fee of 500 yen applies.

Yoshiteru Koriki was born in Ako City, Hyogo Prefecture, in 1970.

After graduating from high school, he studied ceramics for seven years starting in 1989 under Sozan Kaneshige and Yuho Kaneshige.

In 1996, he built his own climbing kiln in Shizutani, Bizen City, to become independent, and fired his first kiln the following year.

He held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2000 and has held solo exhibitions every year since.

In 2002, his work was selected for the Tea Ceremony Art Exhibition for the first time.
