p6668
Bizen Rice Bowl
This is a newly fired Bizen rice bowl by Yoshiteru Koriki, who pursues his own creative vision without pretense, even while having studied under Sosan Kaneshige and Yuho Kaneshige.
This latest work was just taken out of the kiln in May 2022.

This particular rice bowl uses a larger proportion of mountain clay, giving it a rough, matte texture that offers a different appeal from lowland clay.

The firing process also takes full advantage of the characteristics of mountain clay; its vivid orange color is reminiscent of his mentor Yuho Kaneshige, and although it is a rice bowl, it makes one tempted to use it for serving matcha.

Small stones within the mountain clay have emerged from the surface during firing, adding an exquisite, weathered quality to the unaffected Nanban-style unglazed surface.

It is crafted thinner than his previous works, making it light and easy to use while retaining the durability characteristic of Bizen ware.

Bizen rice bowls prevent rice from sticking and absorb excess moisture, making the rice taste better.

No box included
Diameter 12.4cm x 12.0cm x Height 7.2cm

*A shipping fee of 500 yen applies.

Yoshiteru Koriki was born in Ako City, Hyogo Prefecture, in 1970.

After graduating from high school, he studied ceramics for seven years starting in 1989 under Sosan Kaneshige and Yuho Kaneshige.

In 1996, he built his own climbing kiln in Shizutani, Bizen City, and fired his first kiln the following year.

He held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2000 and has held solo exhibitions every year since.

In 2002, he was selected for the Tea Ceremony Sculpture Exhibition for the first time.
