p6674
Bizen Yohen Blue Sake Cup
Born in Imbe and having loved Bizen ware since he was a child, Takashi Baba finds the joy of his life in creating works and firing kilns. This is a brand-new Bizen yohen-ao (kiln-changed blue) guinomi (sake cup), just taken out of the kiln.
This is his latest work, just removed from the kiln in July 2022.

This guinomi is from the Yohen-Ao series, an evolution of the black Bizen ware using slip clay that Mr. Baba excels at, in which a portion of the black surface has transformed into a vivid cobalt blue.

The most striking feature is the intense cobalt blue coloration named "Yohen-Ao," but even in the other black areas, a unique gunmetal-like black has emerged in response to the intense firing.

The sesame glaze that has flowed from the back to the front is also truly fascinating, and the calm, somewhat grayish-toned sesame, which is a characteristic of Mr. Baba's kiln, sets off the black and blue colors beautifully.

Although it is large in size, it has a simple sake cup shape, and you can fully enjoy this innovative firing technique through its straightforward, unpretentious form.

The vivid blue and cool black colors become even richer when in use, offering not only visual interest but also the pleasure of use.

Signed wooden box to be provided later (we apologize, but it will take some time until shipment).
Diameter 6.8cm x 6.6cm x Height 5.5cm

Takashi Baba was born in 1983 as the eldest son of Bizen ware artist Shosuke Baba.

Thinking from a young age that he would become a ceramic artist, he chose sculpture in university to broaden the scope of his pottery.

He graduated from the Sculpture Department of Tokyo University of the Arts in 2006 and honed his skills at the Kyoto Municipal Institute of Industrial Technology and Culture.

He became independent and held his first solo exhibition in 2007.

Currently, he is active primarily through solo exhibitions at department stores.
