p6681
Bizen Yohen Sake Cup
This is a brand-new Bizen yohen sake cup, fresh from the kiln, by Yoshiteru Koriki, who pursues his own creative vision without pretense, despite having studied under the masters Sozan Kaneshige and Yuho Kaneshige.
This is his latest work, just fired in May 2022.

One side features a landscape created by an accumulation of natural glaze, looking as if charred charcoal had been applied directly, with the concentrated, thickly layered ash having solidified while in a boiling state, resulting in a yohen effect reminiscent of magma.

In areas outside of the yohen, the piece showcases a landscape focused on the natural texture of the clay, where you can enjoy the rich shiso-iro (reddish-purple) color derived from the superior clay prepared by Koriki himself.

The interior of the cup has a slightly softer firing in the center, a clever touch typical of Koriki that makes it perfectly suited for sake.

The form features a fresh, Ido tea bowl-inspired design, with a rather tall foot ring crafted with a powerful, gouged appearance.

Signed wooden box (shiho-san)
Diameter 10.2cm x 9.9cm, Height 5.4cm

Yoshiteru Koriki was born in Ako City, Hyogo Prefecture, in 1970.

After graduating from high school, he studied ceramics for seven years starting in 1989 under Sozan Kaneshige and Yuho Kaneshige.

In 1996, he built his own climbing kiln in Shizutani, Bizen City, and became independent, firing his first kiln the following year.

He held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2000 and has held solo exhibitions every year since.

In 2002, he was selected for the Tea Ceremony Ceramics Exhibition for the first time.
