p6710
Yohen black double-spouted pot
Born in Inbe and having loved Bizen ware since childhood, finding joy in creation and kiln firing, this is a brand new Bizen kiln-transformed black double-spouted sake server by Takashi Baba, freshly removed from the kiln.
This latest work was removed from the kiln in July 2022.

It is a black Bizen sake server made with the slip-coating technique that Baba specializes in, where the stylish black slip perfectly complements the innovative design.

The thoroughly fired black slip emits a dull, gunmetal-like luster overall, drawing you into its unique, metallic texture.

Furthermore, on the front, the contact between the slip and the ash that melted inside the kiln during firing has turned the usually gray sangiri (partially fired/reduced) areas into an ultramarine blue due to the influence of cobalt within the slip.

The "double-spout" design—featuring spouts on both sides rather than a single spout—is intriguing and characteristic of Baba, who captivates fans with his flexible creativity.

Signed wooden box (lid with two crossbars)
Diameter 13.2cm x 9.9cm x Height 10.2cm

Takashi Baba was born in 1983 as the eldest son of Bizen ceramic artist Shosuke Baba.

Having thought of becoming a ceramic artist since he was young, he chose to study sculpture in university to broaden his perspective on pottery.

He graduated from the Tokyo University of the Arts with a degree in sculpture in 2006, then joined the Kyoto Municipal Institute of Industrial Technology and Culture to refine his skills.

He became independent and held his first solo exhibition in 2007.

He is currently active mainly through solo exhibitions at department stores.
