p6720
Bizen Guinomi (sake cup)
This is a Bizen sake cup (guinomi) by Tsuneo Osawa, an artist who aims to create works that bring enrichment to daily life, with antique ceramics as his teacher.

This piece perfectly recreates the firing style and earthy quality of old Bizen, characteristic of Mr. Osawa, who has pursued both research into antique ceramics and his own creative work since becoming independent.

Most eye-catching is the scarlet (hi-iro) hue on the front, which features a firm, hard-fired finish quite different from the softer firing often seen in climbing kiln pieces.

The rest of the cup features a very calm charcoal-gray kiln transformation (yohen), creating a quiet, deep ink-black contrast to the intense scarlet.

The large design is reminiscent of the work of Rokuro Nakamura, with a wide, relaxed body that allows the aroma of the sake to fully expand.

When wet with sake, the scarlet color becomes deeper and more vivid, while the other areas shift to a darker, more muted tone, causing the scarlet to be highlighted.
Signed wooden box (shiho-san)
Diameter 7.7cm × 7.7cm × Height 5.6cm
Tsuneo Osawa was born in Akita Prefecture in 1964.

He began his apprenticeship under Bizen pottery master Taisetsu Sueishi in 1982.

He built his own anagama kiln and became independent in 1997, and has since been active primarily through solo exhibitions while continuing his research into antique ceramics.
