p6738
Bizen yohen sake cup
This is a Bizen kiln-transmutation sake cup by Yoshiteru Koriki, an artist who pursues his own creative vision without pretense, despite having studied under masters Sozan Kaneshige and Yuho Kaneshige.
This is his latest work, just removed from the kiln in May 2022.

One side features a landscape where natural glaze has accumulated as if scorched charcoal were applied directly, while the concentrated, thick layers of ash have hardened in a bubbling state, transforming into a gray-silver shimmering ash-covered kiln-transmutation effect.

In contrast, the areas outside of the transmutation are fired at a slightly lower temperature, creating a soft "sweet-fired" appearance that reveals a mellow, bark-like matte sesame glaze and a vivid scarlet hue reminiscent of a ripened fruit.

While this sake cup is characterized by an intense firing centered on its gray kiln-transmutation, the base clay displays a remarkably vivid scarlet, offering a wealth of textural changes and making it fascinating to observe how the atmosphere shifts completely depending on the angle from which it is viewed.

Inside the cup, a small, circular flash of scarlet is positioned next to the potter's wheel marks, a characteristically clever touch by Koriki.
Original signed box to follow (please note that some time will be required before shipment).
Diameter 7.0cm × 7.0cm × Height 5.2cm
Yoshiteru Koriki was born in Ako City, Hyogo Prefecture, in 1970.

After graduating from high school, he studied ceramics for seven years under Sozan and Yuho Kaneshige beginning in 1989.

In 1996, he built his own climbing kiln in Shizutani, Bizen City, and held his first firing the following year.

He held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2000 and has continued to hold annual solo exhibitions ever since.

In 2002, he was selected for the Tea Ceremony Art Exhibition for the first time.
