p6895
Bizen Yohen Sake Bottle
This is a Bizen yohen sake bottle by Sohei Takashima, who made a spectacular debut after graduating from the studio of Jun Isezaki and receiving the Modern Ceramics Encouragement Award from the Japan Ceramic Society.
This is a scallion-shaped sake bottle by Takashima, who studied under the fifth Living National Treasure for Bizen ware, Jun Isezaki, before establishing his own studio in Ushimado, Setouchi City.

Although the small climbing kiln Takashima uses in Ushimado is compact, it produces kiln changes in some areas that resemble those of a large multi-chambered climbing kiln.

This piece also features a striking contrast between scarlet and black, reminiscent of kiln changes created by rolling pieces in a climbing kiln.

The "nuke" (unfired area) in the center of the piece displays a remarkably mellow scarlet, with a melting hue that makes the sake bottle itself look as though it were intoxicated.

Takashima creates everything from tableware to tea utensils with meticulous care; this sake bottle, despite its small size, has an exceptional feel in the hand. His work is truly captivating and makes me very excited for his future.
Signed wooden box to follow (please note that it will take some time to ship).
Rim 4.5cm x Body diameter 8.3cm x Body diameter 8.1cm x Height 12.7cm Capacity approx. 270cc
Sohei Takashima was born in Kushiro City, Hokkaido, in 1991.

In 2014, he graduated from the Department of Design at Dohto University and immediately began his apprenticeship under Jun Isezaki.

He is currently independent and working in Ushimado, Setouchi City, Okayama Prefecture.

He has received the Okayama Prefectural Art Exhibition Encouragement Award, the Tobe Museum "Tea Ceremony Modeling Exhibition" selection, the Ceramic Art Exhibition Encouragement Award, the Modern Tea Ceramics Exhibition selection, and the Japan Ceramic Society Modern Ceramics Encouragement Award.
