p6904
Pale-Changing Black Shuten
This is a newly fired *Aohen-guro* (Blue-change black) sake cup by Hiroshi Goseki, who opened his own kiln in Ibaraki Prefecture after training under Living National Treasure Jun Isezaki.
This is his latest work, just removed from the kiln in December 2022.

The piece utilizes the black clay characteristic of the Isezaki school, and is titled "Aohen-guro" (Blue-change black) because the areas where natural ash glaze accumulates turn a cobalt blue color.

Beneath the golden-hued *goma* (sesame) glaze created by split pine wood, the cobalt blue of the "blue-change" appears as if it is shining through, resulting in a striking color reminiscent of a blue-ringed octopus.

For this piece, the artist used slab construction to form the basic structure, then finished it with meticulous hand-molding to refine the shape, resulting in an exquisite form that evokes the serenity and subtle fluidity of a Raku tea bowl.

Unlike the surface, the black interior has a deep, ink-like quality, creating a mesmerizing vessel interior that perfectly complements the serene style of the work.

Signed wooden box (shiho-san included)
Diameter 6.8cm x 6.8cm x Height 7.2cm

Hiroshi Goseki was born in Chiba Prefecture in 1988.

After graduating from Tohoku University of Art and Design in 2013, he studied under Jun Isezaki, a Living National Treasure in Bizen ware.

He became independent in 2017 and built his kiln in Hiyama, Hitachiomiya City, Ibaraki Prefecture in 2019.
