p6927
Bizen Guinomi
This is a brand new Bizen sake cup (guinomi) fresh from the kiln, created by Kazuki Nakamura, an artist who carries on the legacy of master sake ware craftsmen Rokuro Nakamura and Shin Nakamura to produce works with deep, nuanced character.
While inheriting the lineage of these masters, Kazuki brings his own unique touch to his work, distinguishing his style from that of his father and grandfather.

Fresh from the kiln as of April 2023, the cup features a gentle, rhythmic rise achieved through wheel techniques inherited from his grandfather, exuding an exquisite sense of elegance.

Fired in the mid-section of a climbing kiln where ash-covered kiln-change (yohen) occurs, the cup features a rich, raised gray glaze that provides a pleasant tactile stimulation to the palm.

Reflecting the unique kiln effects, the texture of the clay takes on a special hue; the characteristic scarlet of the Nakamura family has receded, replaced by a subtle, gold-tinged pale pink.

In terms of usability, the slightly constricted body fits perfectly between the thumb and forefinger, while the sturdy foot provides a secure grip for the middle finger, making it much easier to hold than its appearance might suggest.

Original signed wooden box (shiho-san)
Diameter 8.6cm x 8.4cm x Height 4.5cm

Kazuki Nakamura was born in Bizen City, Okayama Prefecture, in 1980 as the eldest son of Shin Nakamura.

After graduating from the Faculty of Letters at Okayama University in 2003, he studied under his grandfather, Rokuro Nakamura, and his father, Shin Nakamura, to refine his ceramic techniques.

He fired his first kiln and became independent in 2006.
