p6973
Blue Shino teacup
This is a new Blue Shino teacup by Takashi Baba, an artist born in Imbe who has loved Bizen ware since childhood and finds joy in crafting works and firing kilns.
Fired around April 2023, this unique piece achieves its blue hue not through glaze coloring, but through translucency.

While Mr. Baba has periodically created Blue Shino using cobalt, this particular piece is distinctive; he uses a slip mixed with cobalt—known as "Black Bizen"—to generate a black base, which is then covered with a feldspar glaze to reveal a pale leek-green color.

The feldspar glaze has been applied using a multiple-pour technique, creating dynamic movement in the glaze texture and interesting color layering due to variations in thickness.

Like his other works, this piece was fired in Mr. Baba’s climbing kiln. The natural glaze flows down from the rim, forming pale green and golden granules that act as a wonderful third color layer, complementing the Black Bizen and feldspar glaze.

The orthodox shape combined with the texture of the glaze makes it very easy to use.

No box included (a paulownia box can be made separately)
Diameter 8.7cm x 8.7cm x Height 9.1cm

Takashi Baba was born in 1983 as the eldest son of Bizen ware artist Shosuke Baba.

Having decided to become a potter from a young age, he chose to study sculpture in university to broaden his perspective on ceramics.

After graduating from the Sculpture Department of Tokyo University of the Arts in 2006, he honed his skills at the Kyoto Municipal Institute of Industrial Technology and Culture.

He became independent in 2007 and held his first solo exhibition.

Currently, he is active primarily through solo exhibitions at department stores.
