p6991
Bizen Yohen Sake Cup
This is a new Bizen *yohen* (kiln-transformed) sake cup, just taken out of the kiln, by Yoshiteru Koriki, an artist who pursues his own creative path without pretense, despite having studied under Sozan Kaneshige and Yuho Kaneshige.
This is his latest work, just removed from the kiln in June 2023.

True to Koriki-sensei’s style of bringing out the character of the clay through daring, risk-taking kiln firings, the exterior features a deep, charcoal-like black *haikaburi* (ash-covered) kiln transformation, with some areas showing a subtle, silvery sheen.

While the *hiiro* (scarlet color) of the Kaneshige school generally tends to fade toward white the more intensely it is fired, this piece succeeded in retaining a rich scarlet hue despite the intense firing, thanks to it being removed at the perfect moment in select areas.

The interior (*mikomi*) is covered in the same charcoal-like *haikaburi* transformation as the exterior, combined with a small, round, unglazed spot that resembles a full moon reflected on water, creating a magnificent landscape.

The trimming around the foot is both deeper and more dynamic than in his previous works, with a *yamamichi* (mountain path) design leading from the rounded, carved-out waist to the body.

While Koriki-sensei’s recent works have shifted toward slightly thinner forms, he has kept a moderate amount of clay at the waist to ensure a comfortable feel in the hand, despite the refined rim.
Original signed box to follow (please note that it will take some time to ship).
Diameter 6.3cm x 6.3cm x Height 5.9cm

Yoshiteru Koriki was born in Ako City, Hyogo Prefecture, in 1970.

After graduating from high school, he studied ceramics under Sozan Kaneshige and Yuho Kaneshige for seven years starting in 1989.

In 1996, he built his own climbing kiln in Shizutani, Bizen City, to become independent, and fired his first kiln the following year.

He held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2000 and has held solo exhibitions every year since.

In 2002, he was selected for the Tea Ceremony Molding Exhibition for the first time.
