p6994
Bizen Hikidashiguro Sake Cup
This is a newly fired *hikidashiguro* (pulled-black) sake cup by Yoshiteru Koriki, an artist who pursues his own creative vision without pretense, despite having studied under masters Sozan Kaneshige and Yuho Kaneshige.
This is the latest work, fresh from the kiln in June 2023.

While *hikidashiguro* is a new direction for Koriki-Bizen, he has incorporated cobalt into this piece to further evolve his black-ware series.

The piece was fired using a cobalt-infused slip and pulled directly from the kiln while glowing; on the front, an ultramarine *yohen* (kiln transformation) has emerged as if seeping out from within the clay.

The rest of the piece features the characteristic scenery of a *hikidashiguro* work, with a striking, highly lustrous dark gray and black finish that possesses a metallic quality.

At one moment it glimmers like metal, and the next, the light seems entirely swallowed by a deep, impenetrable black; peering into the interior of the cup is much like gazing into the abyss of the cosmos.

With subtle variations in color, such as an intensified metallic sheen around the foot, this sake cup serves as a reminder of the mysterious nature of *hikidashiguro* and the wonders of light.
Signed wooden box to be provided later (please note that shipment will take some time).
Diameter 7.9cm x 7.8cm x Height 5.0cm
Yoshiteru Koriki was born in Ako City, Hyogo Prefecture, in 1970.

After graduating from high school, he studied ceramics for seven years under Sozan Kaneshige and Yuho Kaneshige, beginning in 1989.

In 1996, he built his own climbing kiln in Shizutani, Bizen City, and launched his independent career, firing his first kiln the following year.

He held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2000 and has continued to hold annual solo exhibitions ever since.

In 2002, he was selected for the Tea Ceremony Art Exhibition for the first time.
