p7014
Bizen Hidasuki Cup
This is a new Bizen hidasuki sake cup, fresh from the kiln by Yoshiteru Koriki, who pursues his own creative path without pretense, despite having studied under Sozan Kaneshige and Yuho Kaneshige.
This is his latest work, just removed from the kiln in June 2023.

This is a deeply flavorful, wood-fired hidasuki free cup, carefully fired after being sealed in a sagger within the climbing kiln to prevent natural ash glaze from adhering to it.

A departure from the conventional combination of *mogusa* clay and hidasuki fired in an electric kiln, the faint, bluish-gray clay surface is layered with minuscule particles of natural ash glaze. In contrast to the elegant and vibrant look of *mogusa* hidasuki, this piece possesses a rustic, understated beauty.

True to Koriki-sensei’s reputation for meticulous clay preparation, the surface is surprisingly smooth and supple, belying its wild appearance, and offers a refined texture that rivals any electric-fired piece.

While designed as a tea cup, its generous size and wide opening make it well-suited for use as a shochu cup as well.

No box included (*paulownia box can be made upon request)
Diameter 9.0cm × 8.8cm × Height 8.7cm

Yoshiteru Koriki was born in Ako City, Hyogo Prefecture, in 1970.

After graduating from high school, he spent seven years studying pottery under Sozan Kaneshige and Yuho Kaneshige starting in 1989.

He established his own climbing kiln in Shizutani, Bizen City, in 1996, and held his first firing the following year.

He held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2000 and has held annual solo exhibitions ever since.

In 2002, he was selected for the Tea Ceremony Art Exhibition for the first time.
