p7017
Hiki-dashi Black Sake Cup
This is a brand-new *hikidashi-guro* (pulled-from-the-kiln black) sake cup just removed from the kiln by Koichiro Isezaki, who was born as the eldest son of Living National Treasure Jun Isezaki and is breathing new life into the Bizen ware world with his exceptional sense and masterful modeling skills.
This is his latest work, just removed from the kiln in July 2023.

While utilizing the characteristics of Bizen ware as an earthen material, he successfully incorporates essences from his roots, such as wood carving, to create a unique piece that is immediately recognizable as Koichiro's work.

The *hikidashi* technique, where the piece is pulled from the kiln during firing, makes the entire landscape sparkle like a gemstone; the sesame-seed glaze (*goma*) is amber, while the blue sections resemble azurite, creating a mystical landscape that is truly overwhelming.

Furthermore, the coloration and presentation of the parts that turned blue are particularly magnificent; it is as if the artist had kneaded indigo, boiled it down, kneaded it again, and then spread this concentrated indigo thinly. You can enjoy a mystical, profound color that seems to capture the boundary between the universe and the sky.

In addition, his choice of a simple form to showcase the blue is brilliant. Although Koichiro is known for bold modeling, such as knife marks and chamfering, his decision to go with a simple, sphere-like form without protrusions or distortions allows for a pleasant experience that feels as if one is facing the Earth from the deep silence of the universe.

Original signed wooden box to follow (please note that it will take some time before the item can be shipped).
Diameter 8.0cm x 7.5cm x Height 5.9cm

Koichiro Isezaki was born in Bizen City, Okayama Prefecture, in 1974 as the eldest son of Jun Isezaki.

After graduating from the Sculpture Department of Tokyo Zokei University in 1994, he studied abroad in the United States.

He later studied under Jeff Shapiro, a potter living in New York City who was also a student of his father, in 1998.

After studying pottery for about two years, he returned to Japan, and in 2000, he became an independent ceramic artist under his father, Jun Isezaki.
