p7057
Bizen tea cup
This is a new Bizen tea cup fresh from the kiln by Yoshiteru Koriki, an artist who pursues his own creative vision without pretense, despite having studied under Sozan Kaneshige and Yuho Kaneshige.

This is his latest work, just removed from the kiln in June 2023.

Among Koriki's works, which are renowned for their varied landscapes and the quality of their clay, this piece is a popular style that combines a persimmon-orange clay body with an understated, dry-textured 'kase-goma' (ash glaze).

The soft, lightly fired clay absorbs moisture quickly when used, changing into the vibrant hue of a ripe fruit for your enjoyment.

More than half of the piece is covered in a 'yohen' (kiln-change) of blended gray and deep green, with an appealing, soft texture that sits just on the verge of the ash buildup characteristic of 'kase-goma'.

The orthodox form typical of Koriki’s work makes it easy to use, and it is sure to be versatile as both a tea cup and a shochu cup.
No box included (*a paulownia wood box can be made separately)
Diameter 7.9cm x 7.8cm x Height 9.3cm

*Please note that a shipping fee of 500 yen applies.

Yoshiteru Koriki was born in Ako City, Hyogo Prefecture, in 1970.

After graduating from high school, he studied ceramics for seven years starting in 1989 under Sozan Kaneshige and Yuho Kaneshige.

In 1996, he built his own climbing kiln in Shizutani, Bizen City, to become independent, and fired his first kiln the following year.

He held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2000, and has held solo exhibitions every year since.

In 2002, his work was selected for the Tea Ceremony Molding Exhibition for the first time.
