p7063
Ao-Shino Tea Cup
This is a new Blue Shino teacup by Takashi Baba, who was born in Imbe and has loved Bizen ware since childhood, finding his life’s joy in crafting works and firing kilns.
This piece was removed from the kiln around April 2023. It is a unique work created by applying Shino glaze to Shino clay and firing it in a Bizen climbing kiln.

While the base is based on traditional Shino ware, the overlapping effects from the climbing kiln firing result in a new series that offers infinite variations to enjoy.

The most striking feature of this work is the glaze texture, which stretches out like a boundless blue sky, overflowing with the signature style of Baba-sensei, who is dedicated to creating blue kiln transformations using cobalt.

While retaining the soft, beautiful colors typical of feldspathic Shino glazes, the piece also features rich, varied scenery enhanced by the addition of iron-painted designs on the front.

The orthodox form, combined with the texture of the glaze, makes it very easy to use.

No box included (*a paulownia wood box can be crafted separately)
Diameter 9.3cm x 9.3cm x Height 8.6cm

Takashi Baba was born in 1983 as the eldest son of Bizen ware artist Shosuke Baba.

Considering becoming a ceramic artist from an early age, he chose to major in sculpture during university to broaden his perspective on pottery.

After graduating from the Sculpture Department of Tokyo University of the Arts in 2006, he further honed his skills at the Kyoto Municipal Institute of Industrial Technology and Culture.

He became independent in 2007 and held his first solo exhibition.

Currently, he is active primarily through solo exhibitions at department stores.
