p7103
Bizen Yohen Sake Cup
This is a brand new Bizen yohen sake cup, fresh from the kiln, by Yoshiteru Koriki, an artist who pursues his own creative vision without pretense while having studied under Sozan Kaneshige and Yuho Kaneshige.
This is a latest work, freshly fired in October 2023.

True to Koriki-sensei's style of bringing out the character of the clay through bold, risk-taking firing techniques, the exterior features a deep, black ash-covered yohen reminiscent of wet charcoal, with some areas exhibiting a faint, shimmering silvery ash glaze.

While the scarlet color (hi-iro) characteristic of the Kaneshige school generally tends toward white the more intensely it is fired, this piece successfully retains a rich scarlet tone even while achieving a strong, well-fired finish, thanks to it being pulled from the kiln at the precise, perfect moment in a very limited area.

The interior (mikomi) is also covered in a charcoal-like ash yohen, with some parts shimmering faintly silver, creating a truly spectacular landscape.

Although Koriki-sensei has shifted slightly toward thinner forms compared to his previous work, he is beginning to imbue his pieces with a sense of distinction, seen in details like the flowing shape of the foot and the refined rim.
Signed wooden box to follow (please note that it will take some time before shipping).
Diameter 6.3cm x 6.3cm x Height 5.8cm
Yoshiteru Koriki was born in Ako City, Hyogo Prefecture, in 1970.

After graduating from high school, he studied ceramics for seven years under Sozan Kaneshige and Yuho Kaneshige starting in 1989.

In 1996, he built his own climbing kiln in Shizutani, Bizen City, to become independent, and fired his first kiln the following year.

He held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2000, and has held solo exhibitions every year since.

In 2002, he was selected for the Chanoyu Zokei-ten (Tea Ceremony Form Exhibition) for the first time.
