p7105
Bizen-yaki Hiki-dashi Gen-dasuki Yunomi (Tea Cup)
A newly fired *Bizen hikidashi kuro-tasuki* (black-tasuki) tea cup by Yoshiteru Koriki, an artist who pursues his own creative path without pretense, despite having studied under Sozan Kaneshige and Yuho Kaneshige.
This is a brand new piece, just taken from the kiln in October 2023.

Beyond the traditional Bizen expressions achieved through climbing kiln firing, this tea cup utilizes a new technique developed since the 2000s.

By incorporating the *hikidashi* (pull-out) technique into the climbing kiln process, the pieces are placed near the firing port and extracted mid-fire to be rapidly cooled, carbonizing the surface.

What sets this work apart from the popular black *hikidashi* pieces currently seen in Bizen is that it belongs to the "Hidasuki" (scarlet-cord) lineage.
While Hidasuki is characterized by its soft, white clay base adorned with red cord markings, the carbonization process reverses these colors into a black-silver hue reminiscent of *Ao-Bizen* (blue Bizen), resulting in an unprecedented texture that resembles iron or charcoal.

The Hidasuki markings have also been inverted to black, shimmering with a black-silver luster as implied by the name "Kuro-tasuki" (or *Gen-tasuki*). Following his "Shu" (preservation) style of Hidasuki, which inherited his mentor Sozan Kaneshige's electric kiln firing techniques, and his "Ha" (breakthrough) style of *Mizutama* (polka-dot) Hidasuki, this piece captivates the viewer as a completely new "Ri" (detachment) style of Hidasuki.

No box included (*a paulownia wood box can be made upon request).
Diameter 8.2cm x 8.2cm x Height 9.7cm

Yoshiteru Koriki was born in Akō City, Hyōgo Prefecture, in 1970.

After graduating from high school, he studied ceramics for seven years under Sozan Kaneshige and Yuho Kaneshige starting in 1989.

He built his own climbing kiln in Shizutani, Bizen City, in 1996 to become independent, and fired his first kiln the following year.

He held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2000 and has held annual solo exhibitions ever since.

In 2002, his work was selected for the Tea Ceremony Modeling Exhibition for the first time.
