p7135
Hidasuki bowl
This is a Hidasuki (fire-cord) bowl by Yoshiteru Kōriki, who pursues his own creative style without pretense, despite having studied under the masters Sozan Kaneshige and Yūhō Kaneshige.
This piece was fired in an electric kiln in July 2022.

Using a custom-made electric kiln capable of wood firing, it was fired over the same amount of time as an anagama (climbing kiln). The moist texture and the rich, deep-toned Hidasuki markings—which seem to soak into the very core of the clay—evoke the techniques faithfully inherited from his mentors.

On the inner center, one can enjoy a surface expression created by circular Hidasuki markings layered over the potter's wheel marks, while the exterior features Hidasuki lines that race across the surface in every direction.

With a design that has a bit of depth, it is suitable for serving dishes with sauce—a hallmark of Kōriki-sensei, who has an established reputation for his functional tableware.

No box
Diameter 20.1cm x 20.0cm x Height 4.8cm

Yoshiteru Kōriki was born in Akō City, Hyōgo Prefecture, in 1970.

After graduating from high school, he studied ceramics under Sozan Kaneshige and Yūhō Kaneshige for seven years starting in 1989.

In 1996, he became independent after building an anagama kiln in Shizutani, Bizen City, and fired his first kiln the following year.

He held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2000 and has held solo exhibitions every year since.

In 2002, his work was selected for the Tea Ceremony Sculpture Exhibition for the first time.
