p7139
Bizen "Hiki-dashi" Sake Cup
This is a newly fired Bizen *hikidashi* (pulled-from-the-kiln) sake cup by Yoshiteru Koriki, who pursues his own creative path without pretense while having studied under the masters Sozan Kaneshige and Yuho Kaneshige.
This is the latest work, just removed from the kiln in October 2023.

While this is a *hikidashi* sake cup unlike Koriki’s previous Bizen work, it has evolved into a unique landscape with the addition of black sesame ash patterns caused by its placement in front of the fire.

Placed in the hottest part of the kiln in front of the fire and pulled out during firing, the entire piece is heavily coated with natural amber-like ash glaze.

The coloring varies subtly, with a stronger metallic sheen around the base, making this a sake cup that allows one to rediscover the mystery of *hikidashi* black and the wonders of light.

Inside the cup, the amber glaze overlays the clay, which has turned gray, creating a mysterious color reminiscent of a living creature or perhaps an ore resting on a riverbed.

The orthodox form, typical of Koriki, makes it approachable, and despite its truly mystical landscape, it is a very practical sake cup.
Includes signed paulownia storage box (shiho-zan).
Diameter: 6.7cm x 6.6cm x Height: 5.9cm
Yoshiteru Koriki was born in Ako City, Hyogo Prefecture, in 1970.

After graduating from high school, he studied ceramics for seven years starting in 1989 under masters Sozan Kaneshige and Yuho Kaneshige.

In 1996, he built his own climbing kiln in Shizutani, Bizen City, to become an independent artist, and fired his first kiln the following year.

He held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2000 and has held solo exhibitions every year since.

In 2002, his work was selected for the Tea Ceremony Molding Exhibition for the first time.
