p7157
Bizen yohen sake cup
This is a brand-new Bizen yohen sake cup, fresh from the kiln, created by Yoshiteru Koriki, who pursues his own unique craftsmanship without pretense despite having apprenticed under Sozan Kaneshige and Yuho Kaneshige.
This is his latest work, just removed from the kiln in October 2023.

True to Koriki's style of drawing out the character of the clay through aggressive kiln firing that fears no risk, the exterior features a deep, charcoal-like black ash-covered yohen, with hints of a faintly shimmering silver ash-covered yohen in certain areas.

While the scarlet hue (hi-iro) of the Kaneshige school generally fades toward white the more intensely it is fired, this piece successfully retains a rich scarlet color despite the strong firing, as it reached its peak finish at exactly the right moment in very specific areas.

Inside the cup, the ink-black of the ash-covered yohen and the scarlet of the clay body compete, combined with a small, circular patch that resembles a full moon reflected on water, forming a superb landscape.

While Koriki's recent forms have shifted toward a slightly thinner profile, he maintains a satisfying weight in the hand by leaving enough substance in the base, despite the refined rim.
Signed wooden box (shiho-san)
Diameter 7.3cm x 7.3cm x Height 5.7cm
Yoshiteru Koriki was born in Ako City, Hyogo Prefecture, in 1970.

After graduating from high school, he studied ceramics for seven years under Sozan Kaneshige and Yuho Kaneshige starting in 1989.

In 1996, he built his own climbing kiln in Shizutani, Bizen City, and launched his independent career, firing his first kiln the following year.

He held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2000 and has continued to hold annual solo exhibitions ever since.

In 2002, he was selected for the Tea Ceremony Art Exhibition for the first time.
