This is a newly fired black sake cup (guinomi) fresh from his kiln.

This latest work was just removed from the kiln in February 2024.

While utilizing the characteristics of Bizen ware as an earthen material,
he skillfully incorporates essences from his roots, such as wood carving,
resulting in a unique piece that is instantly recognizable as Koichiro's.

The piece was created by tearing a large ball of clay into two, joining them, and then shaping it into a sphere,
which has created natural protrusions and fine wrinkles on the surface of the vessel.

On the black slip, which could now be called the hallmark of the Isezaki school,
intense kiln firing has caused a reaction resulting in blue kiln-altered coloration, making it look as if indigo is being extracted from the black surface.

When this indigo kiln-altered color is moistened by sake during use,
it becomes even more vivid, delighting the viewer.

Furthermore, due to the intense firing, natural glaze dripped from the kiln walls,
landing on the yellow sesame (goma) glaze like fantastic, tear-like droplets.

The shape of the base makes it slightly unstable.

Signed wooden box to follow (please note that it will take some time before shipment).
Diameter 8.3cm x 8.1cm x Height 6.0cm

Koichiro Isezaki was born in 1974 in Bizen City, Okayama Prefecture, as the eldest son of Jun Isezaki.

After graduating from the Sculpture Department of Tokyo Zokei University in 1994, he studied abroad in the United States.

He then studied under Jeff Shapiro, a potter living in New York City and a student of his father, in 1998.

After learning pottery for about two years, he returned to Japan, and in 2000, he became an independent potter under his father, Jun Isezaki.
