p7230
Bizen-ware Gen-tasuki sake cup
This is a Bizen "Gen-tasuki" (Black Sash) red sake cup (guinomi) by Yoshiteru Koriki, an artist who pursues his own creative vision without pretense, despite having studied under Sozan Kaneshige and Yuho Kaneshige.
This piece was fired in October 2023.

Distinct from traditional Bizen techniques using a climbing kiln, this sake cup was fired using a new method developed by Koriki.
It takes the "hidasuki" (fire-cord) technique—created by sealing the piece inside the kiln—to a new level, enveloping the entire cup in the vivid, ripe-persimmon red hue that is a hallmark of Koriki's work.

True to the "Gen-tasuki" (Black Sash) name, the sash on this piece is a matte black. However, a closer look at this black sash reveals a mysterious kiln-transmutation, with some areas featuring a dry, sesame-like surface and others forming glassy crystals.

This piece fulfills the dream many pottery enthusiasts have of drinking from a cup that has undergone kiln-transmutation across its entire surface, making it a "Tasuki" (sash) work truly intended for the "Gen-jin" (the seasoned expert) who has seen many different works.
Signed paulownia wood box to follow (please note that shipment will take some time).
Diameter 7.0cm x 6.9cm x Height 5.1cm

Yoshiteru Koriki was born in Ako City, Hyogo Prefecture, in 1970.

After graduating from high school, he spent seven years from 1989 studying ceramics under Sozan Kaneshige and Yuho Kaneshige.

In 1996, he built his own climbing kiln in Shizutani, Bizen City, and held his first firing the following year.

He held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2000 and has continued to hold annual solo exhibitions since.

In 2002, he was selected for the Tea Ceremony Art Exhibition for the first time.
