p7232
Bizen Hiki-dashi Gen-dasuki Sake Cup
This is a Bizen Hiki-dashi Kuro-tasuki sake cup (guinomi) by Yoshiteru Kouriki, an artist who pursues his own creative path without pretension, despite having studied under Sozan Kaneshige and Yuho Kaneshige.
This piece was taken from the kiln in October 2023.

Distinct from traditional Bizen expressions achieved through climbing kiln firing, this sake cup utilizes new techniques developed since the 2000s.

By incorporating the "Hiki-dashi" (pull-out) method into the climbing kiln process, the pieces are placed near the firing port and rapidly cooled after being removed during the firing process, causing them to carbonize.

The one difference between this piece and the popular black Hiki-dashi works currently seen in Bizen is that this piece belongs to the "Hidasuki" (fire-cord) lineage.

While Hidasuki is typically characterized by red cords draped over soft-toned white clay, the carbonization process reverses this into a black-silver hue reminiscent of Aobizen (blue Bizen), resulting in an unprecedented texture that resembles iron or charcoal.

The Hidasuki also turns black, shining with a black-silver brilliance that lives up to the name "Kuro-tasuki" (Black Tasuki). It captivates the viewer as an entirely new "ri" (departure/transcendence) style of Hidasuki, following the "shu" (preserving) style of Hidasuki inherited from his teacher Sozan Kaneshige's electric kiln firings, and the "ha" (breaking) style of "polka-dot" Hidasuki achieved through creative firing innovations.

Signed wooden box to be provided at a later date (please note that it will take some time before shipment).
Diameter 6.9cm x 6.8cm x Height 5.2cm

Yoshiteru Kouriki was born in Ako City, Hyogo Prefecture, in 1970.

After graduating from high school, he studied ceramics for seven years starting in 1989 under Sozan Kaneshige and Yuho Kaneshige.

In 1996, he built a climbing kiln in Shizutani, Bizen City, to establish his independence, and fired his first kiln the following year.

He held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2000 and has held solo exhibitions every year since.

In 2002, his work was selected for the Tea Ceremony Molding Exhibition for the first time.
