p7241
Bizen Katakuchi Guinomi
This is a brand-new Bizen katakuchi sake cup (guinomi), freshly removed from the kiln by Kazuki Nakamura, an artist who creates works of profound depth, following in the footsteps of the master sake vessel makers, Rokuro Nakamura and Shin Nakamura.
While inheriting the lineage of masters in sake vessel craftsmanship, this cup is quintessentially Kazuki—imbuing his style with a unique character that distinguishes him from both his father and grandfather.

Fresh from the kiln in February 2024, this latest piece features a relaxed, rhythmic rise in its silhouette, achieved through potter's wheel techniques inherited from his grandfather, exuding an exquisite charm.

Adorned with a dry *kase-goma* (ash glaze) texture reminiscent of tree bark, the front reveals a beautiful scarlet hue, as if opening the folds of a kimono.

The rich, scarlet clay body—a Nakamura family secret—is exceptionally beautiful. It is a joy both to behold and to use; as it is seasoned over time, the texture will grow smoother, reflecting the tremendous potential of this piece as a sake vessel.

In a playful touch, Kazuki has added a small spout to the side of the piece, allowing one to actually drink sake from it, offering a pleasant change of pace for the occasional indulgence.

Signed wooden box (shiho-san)
Diameter 8.0cm x 7.5cm x Height 4.6cm

Kazuki Nakamura was born in Bizen City, Okayama Prefecture, in 1980 as the eldest son of Shin Nakamura.

After graduating from the Faculty of Letters at Okayama University in 2003, he studied under his grandfather, Rokuro Nakamura, and his father, Shin Nakamura, to hone his ceramic skills.

He fired his first kiln and became an independent artist in 2006.
