p7248
Kuroshuten
This is a black sake cup by Tomoyuki Oiwa, who studied pottery techniques under Ryuichi Kakurezaki and is now dedicated to his craft in Kamigori, Hyogo Prefecture.

This piece was fired in November 2023.

Oiwa-sensei fires his works with the intention of achieving a powerful finish; the intense heat causes the black slip to transform into a magnificent color, resulting in a clear, lustrous black similar to that of his mentor, Kakurezaki-sensei.

Furthermore, this piece features a strikingly vivid, light-blue kiln transformation; the incredibly clear hue of this landscape is reminiscent of a "hikidashi-guro" (pulled black) style, which is truly remarkable.

The bold form, which makes heavy use of *shinogi* (fluting), creates fine ridges and grooves in the clay surface, and the translucent light-blue kiln transformation gains delicate nuances of light and shadow from these uneven textures.

The design, which incorporates and outputs the tripod base style of his mentor, is also fascinating, and Oiwa-sensei's meticulous attention to detail is evident from the foot to the rim.
Signed wooden box to follow at a later date (please note that it will take some time before the item can be shipped).
Diameter 7.6cm x 7.1cm x Height 5.8cm
Tomoyuki Oiwa was born in Kobe, Hyogo Prefecture, in 1977.

He completed his studies at the Bizen Pottery Center in 2004 and apprenticed under Ryuichi Kakurezaki in 2005.

He established his own studio in Hyogo Prefecture in 2014.
