p7249
Bizen Sake Cup
This is a Bizen sake cup by the late Hisanaga Koide, who inherited the techniques of Juro Harada and left behind a body of remarkable work.

Combining a dynamic firing with a form backed by impeccable technique,
this piece transcends the Harada Juro philosophy, reaching toward something entirely new.

The rich, firmly fired scarlet hue, which could easily be mistaken for ancient Bizen ware, is deeply evocative,
while the rugged, reef-like ash glaze covering a third of the piece gives it the striking presence of an object just pulled from the ocean floor.

Though the design resembles a mortar downsized to be held in one hand,
its dignified appearance seems to declare that despite its smaller size, it remains unyielding and bold.

At the same time, it is not a piece that alienates its user;
the thick band provides a natural grip for the fingers, and the shape from the base to the waist is perfectly sized to hold,
making it unexpectedly comfortable to use despite its unconventional form.

This is an unused piece that has been carefully stored since its purchase.

Signed wooden box (shiho-san)
Diameter 10.3cm x 9.0cm x Height 5.1cm

Hisanaga Koide was born in Amagasaki City, Hyogo Prefecture, in 1978.

In 1997, he became an apprentice to Juro Harada.

He became independent in 2011 and built a climbing kiln in Ushimado-cho, Setouchi City, Okayama Prefecture.

He fired his first kiln in 2013.

He passed away in 2020.
