p7277
Bizen Sake Cup
This is a slightly earlier Bizen sake cup by Kazuki Nakamura, an artist who carries on the lineage of the master sake vessel makers Rokuro Nakamura and Makoto Nakamura, and whose works are noted for their profound depth.
While inheriting the legacy of these masters, this cup is quintessentially Kazuki, subtly infusing his own unique style that distinguishes him from his father and grandfather.
Coated in a "kase-goma" (dry ash glaze) resembling tree bark, the front features a beautiful splash of scarlet (hiiro), as if opening the folds of a kimono.
The rich, scarlet-hued clay—a secret of the Nakamura family—is exquisite. It is a pleasure both to admire and to use; as it is seasoned through use, the surface texture will grow even smoother, showcasing the immense potential of this piece as a sake vessel.
From the rhythmic, undulating form of the rim to the powerfully carved foot, the work demonstrates a masterful inheritance of the techniques refined by his grandfather, Rokuro Nakamura, through a lifetime of passionate sake appreciation.
This is an unused piece that has been carefully stored since its purchase.

Signed wooden box (tomobako) included
Diameter 8.5cm x 8.5cm, Height 3.9cm

Kazuki Nakamura was born in Bizen City, Okayama Prefecture, in 1980 as the eldest son of Makoto Nakamura.
After graduating from the Faculty of Letters at Okayama University in 2003, he studied under his grandfather, Rokuro Nakamura, and his father, Makoto Nakamura, to hone his pottery skills.
He established his own studio after firing his first kiln in 2006.
