p7286
Bizen sake cup
This Bizen sake cup is an earlier work by Kazuki Nakamura, an artist who carries on the lineage of the master sake vessel makers Rokuro Nakamura and Shin Nakamura, and creates works of profound depth.
While inheriting the tradition of these masters, this piece is quintessentially Kazuki, subtly incorporating a unique character into his style that distinguishes it from that of his father and grandfather.

It is enveloped in a dry, matte *kase-goma* (ash glaze) resembling tree bark, while the front reveals a beautiful scarlet hue, as if opening a kimono.

While it clearly features the rich, scarlet clay texture unique to the Nakamura family tradition, this particular piece has been fired with slightly higher intensity, resulting in a *kase-goma* appearance reminiscent of the Kaneshige school.

The interior landscape is a concentrated display of the charm of Bizen *kase-goma*, with mustard-colored yellow ash glazes splashed about, creating a stunning contrast with the wine-red clay.

From the rhythmically undulating rim to the powerfully carved foot, he has magnificently inherited the techniques cultivated by his grandfather, Rokuro Nakamura, through his lifelong passion for sake.

This is an unused piece that has been carefully stored since purchase.

Signed wooden box (double-battened)
Diameter 8.2cm x 8.2cm, Height 3.7cm

Kazuki Nakamura was born in Bizen City, Okayama Prefecture, in 1980, the eldest son of Shin Nakamura.

After graduating from the Faculty of Letters at Okayama University in 2003, he apprenticed under his grandfather, Rokuro Nakamura, and his father, Shin Nakamura, to hone his pottery skills.

He fired his first kiln and established his own studio in 2006.
