p7325
Red wine drinker
This is a new red sake cup, just out of the kiln, by Tomoyuki Oiwa, who studied pottery under Ryuichi Kakurezaki and now pursues his research in Kamigori, Hyogo Prefecture.

This is his latest work, removed from the kiln in April 2024.

It is part of a series that serves as a counterpart to his iconic "Black" series; the piece is finished with a special clay coating and fired to a salmon pink hue.

The overall tone is a salmon pink that is not overly bright, while areas touched by natural ash glaze display a bright brownish-red kiln transformation.

Works fired in an anagama kiln often have a base of clay with strong reddish tones, but this piece is quite unique in its exceptionally matte, uniform color, which I have never seen before.

As his mentor, Ryuichi Kakurezaki, also explores the utility of various clays, this work can be said to represent one of the possibilities of clay application discovered through Oiwa's own unique methods.

The design, which incorporates and outputs the tripod form of his mentor into his own style, is intriguing, and Oiwa's meticulous attention to detail is evident from the foot to the rim.
Signed wooden box to follow (please note that shipping will take some time).
Diameter 7.2cm × 6.8cm × Height 6.5cm
Tomoyuki Oiwa was born in Kobe, Hyogo Prefecture in 1977.

He completed his studies at the Bizen Pottery Center in 2004 and apprenticed under Ryuichi Kakurezaki in 2005.

He established his own studio in Hyogo Prefecture in 2014.
