p7343
Bizen-yaki ware sake cup with a high shaved foot
This is a freshly kiln-fired new Bizen *wari-kodai* (split-foot) sake cup (*guinomi*) by Kazuki Nakamura, an artist who carries on the lineage of the master sake vessel creators Rokuro and Makoto Nakamura to produce deeply evocative works.
While inheriting the tradition of these masters, this sake cup bears the signature style of Kazuki, infusing his own unique aesthetic that distinguishes him from both his father and grandfather.

Fresh from the kiln in June 2024, the piece features a relaxed, rhythmic rise in form achieved through his grandfather’s inherited wheel techniques, exuding an exquisite charm.

Rather than the vibrant scarlet typical of the Nakamura family’s signature style, this work showcases a deeper, more thoroughly fired orange clay body.

The interior also exhibits a well-fired, soft brown clay texture, which, combined with the dark green matte ash glaze (*kase-goma*), creates a refined and understated elegance.

For this piece, the artist has taken on the challenge of a split-foot design, with the sharply incised foot gorgeously fired as the ash glaze clings to its edges, making it truly a sight to behold.

Original signed wooden box (shiho-san)
Diameter 8.0cm x 8.0cm, Height 4.8cm

Kazuki Nakamura was born in 1980 in Bizen City, Okayama Prefecture, as the eldest son of Makoto Nakamura.

After graduating from the Faculty of Letters at Okayama University in 2003, he studied under his grandfather, Rokuro Nakamura, and his father, Makoto Nakamura, to hone his pottery skills.

He fired his first kiln and became an independent artist in 2006.
