p7377
Bizen Hikidashiguro Sake Cup
This is a freshly kiln-fired *hikidashi-guro* (pulled black) sake cup by Yoshiteru Koriki, who pursues his own creative path without pretense, despite having studied under the masters Sozan Kaneshige and Yuho Kaneshige.
This is his latest work, just removed from the kiln in June 2024.

While *hikidashi-guro* is a new direction for Koriki-Bizen, this piece incorporates cobalt to push his black ceramic work to a new level of evolution.

By using a slip containing cobalt and pulling the piece directly from the kiln during firing, a deep ultramarine kiln-transmutation has emerged on the front of the piece, as if seeping out from the clay itself.

The rest of the piece displays the characteristic landscapes of *hikidashi-guro*, featuring a striking dark grey and black palette with a powerful, metallic-like sheen.

At one moment, it glimmers like metal, only for the light to be completely swallowed by a profound black the next; gazing into the interior is like peering into a deep, vast universe.

With subtle variations in tone—such as the intensified metallic luster around the foot—this sake cup truly allows one to appreciate the wonder of *hikidashi-guro* and the mysteries of light.
Signed wooden box to follow later (please note that it will take some time before shipping).
Diameter 6.5cm x 6.5cm x Height 5.9cm
Yoshiteru Koriki was born in Ako City, Hyogo Prefecture, in 1970.

After graduating from high school, he studied ceramics under Sozan Kaneshige and Yuho Kaneshige for seven years starting in 1989.
He established his own climbing kiln in Shizutani, Bizen City, in 1996, and held his first firing the following year.

He held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2000, and has continued to hold annual solo exhibitions ever since.

In 2002, his work was selected for the Tea Ceremony Sculpture Exhibition for the first time.
